Dr. Ravindra V. Mailapur, MD, FACS, FASMBS joined Huntsville Hospital and founded The Bariatric Surgery Center of Huntsville in 2004, now known as Madison Surgical Associates. He developed the idea of a comprehensive bariatric surgical program and partnered with Huntsville Hospital to make it happen. He currently serves as Medical Director of the Weight Loss Surgery Program at Huntsville Hospital.

After finishing his surgical residency in New York, Dr. Mailapur completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida. He's practiced general surgery, advanced laparoscopy, and weight loss surgery in Huntsville since 2004.

He's been an approved American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Center of Excellence (COE) surgeon since 2004. He's Board Certified in General Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the ASMBS.

Dr. Mailapur refers to bariatric surgery as a tool — a safely performed tool to help patients take charge of their lives and move toward a longer, healthier life. Surgery alone doesn't guarantee results. Patients need to commit to the lifestyle changes and follow-through that come after, and they hold their own key to success.

Beyond weight loss surgery, Dr. Mailapur has expertise in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic gallbladder removal and hernia repair.

Dr. Mailapur knows surgery is a major event in his patients' lives. He takes the time to explain procedures and answer questions, for patients and their families both.

Dr. Mailapur is married with two children. Outside the practice and the hospital, he enjoys cooking, hiking, playing tennis, and watching movies.
