traveling to Huntsville, Alabama for weight loss surgery

Traveling Patients

Coming to Huntsville for Surgery

Many of our patients live outside Huntsville and Madison, including a significant number who travel from South Tennessee and across North Alabama. Dr. Mailapur has performed more than 6,000 bariatric procedures, and we work to make the logistics of traveling for surgery as straightforward as the surgery itself.

Huntsville has a wide range of hotels, several within a few minutes of our office and Huntsville Hospital. A few options patients have found convenient, with driving distance from the hospital:

Planning Your Stay

How long you should plan to stay depends on the procedure you have and how your recovery is going. As a general guide, plan to stay in the Huntsville area for one to two weeks after surgery so Dr. Mailapur can see you for your early follow-up appointments and confirm your healing is on track before you travel home. We understand that isn't always possible, and we'll work with you to figure out what makes sense for your situation.

Insurance and Self-Pay for Out-of-Area Patients

If you're not sure whether your insurance covers surgery with us, call our office and we'll check your benefits directly. If your insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery, or if you'd rather not wait on the approval process, self-pay is available with transparent pricing and financing through Cherry.
